Michigan Move: Shelby Township

Situated in Macomb County nearly 20 miles outside of Detroit, you will find the beautiful community of Shelby Township. Home to nearly 75,000 residents, Shelby Township is one of the fastest growing communities within Metro Detroit. This suburb is an inviting mix of neighborhoods, shopping, dining and entertainment.

For those of you with children, Shelby Township is a great place to raise a family. The majority of the residents are zoned within Utica Community Schools, and a small portion is zoned to Romeo Community Schools. Oakland University, Wayne State University and Walsh College are all located within a short commute.

Shelby Township has the second-lowest tax rate within the municipalities in Macomb County that provides a full-service police and fire unit to its residents.

The area is home to some big household name retailers like Target, Kohls and Dick's Sporting Goods. The township is also within a close proximity to Partridge Creek and Lakeside Mall.

The township has 1,200 acres of parks with a dedicated Parks and Recreation department to plan and coordinate adult and youth recreation programs. The notable Stony Creek Metropark has a small portion extending into the township. The park includes two beaches, golf courses, a nature center, boat launch and more.

Each summer, the Shelby Township Art Fair Committee invites artists from all across the state to exhibit at the Shelby Township Municipal Grounds.

Whether you are a young professional just beginning life on your own, or family looking to establish roots, Shelby Township can be the place for you. View properties for sale here.
