Canton Real Estate Listings and Information

Canton

If you live in Canton, you don’t have to decide between great schools, shopping, parks and recreation programs, safety, culture or an easy commute. Here, you can have it all.

The Canton parks and recreation system is so dynamic, that it won the highest national award possible (the Parks Association Gold Medal) for a parks and recreation department for a community of its size.

The Summit on the Park, a nationally-recognized community center, offers Canton residents a variety of classes, special events, and leisure activities to choose from.

The city is home to the Village Theater at Cherry Hill (owned and operated by Canton Township) a performing arts and education center bringing culture to the people of this large Detroit suburb.

Fitness enthusiasts here have some of the nicest trails to hike, bike, and walk and run in the state of Michigan. The Canton trail system provides over 10 miles of paved pedestrian paths as well as over 5 miles of dirt surface single-track trails along the Lower Rouge River for hiking and mountain biking. Canton also has two golf courses and the Canton Sports complex.

But if shopping is your idea of cardio…Canton is home to an IKEA store. If you’re not familiar with this Sweden-based retailer, then put on some comfortable shoes, come hungry (they have a popular cafeteria which sells, what else: Swedish meatballs) and prepare for a shopping experience that is truly unique.

Canton’s restaurant offerings are as diverse as its population. The Thai Bistro was recently recognized as Detroit’s only 4-star Thai restaurant. Also here are Ashoka Indian Cuisine, Rose’s Restaurant & Lounge, Matsu Chan, and La Sharm, as well as more typical eateries such as Outback Steakhouse, Carrabba’s and Max & Erma’s.

The city also has a Farmer’s Market every Sunday, rain or shine, featuring fresh local produce. The lively market often features live music, crafts, kids’ activities, and cooking demonstrations.

Distinctly suburban, home buyers here have both established and relatively new neighborhoods to choose from. Many of them even have amenities like clubhouses, pools and walking trails right in the subdivision.

Canton's Cherry Hill Village is Michigan’s first neo-traditional neighborhood. This unique neighborhood was planned and developed on principles of “Traditional Neighborhood Development” or “New Urbanism.”

With its variety of home styles (in a variety of colors!) Cherry Hill Village creates a diverse and interesting “streetscape,” conveying a sense of space much larger than any one individual house. This neighborhood is a mix of single-family and multi-family residences with all the amenities of a small town. There are four main parks, with more planned in future phases, that vary in size and use. Some homes even have white picket fences.
