Although it was once a quiet community bordered by dirt roads and populated by farmhouses, Shelby Township has seen significant development over the past thirty years.

This northern Metro Detroit suburb is now an inviting mix of neighborhoods, shopping, dining, recreation and entertainment. The shopping alone is worth a trip down busy M59 (also known as Hall Road).

The area is home to big retailers like Target, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Kohl’s and Old Navy as well as specialty stores such as gourmet grocer Nino Salvaggio.

In nearby Macomb Township is Partridge Creek, an outdoor mall opened in 2007. Anchored by Nordstrom and Parisianne it boasts ninety stores, an MJR Movie Theater, bocce ball courts, playground, splash pad, fountains – there’s even flat screen TVs to watch Tiger games outside.

Just up the street is Lakeside Mall featuring stores like Lord & Taylor and Macy’s as well as a food court and a large carousal.

Nearby activities and amenities include the Shelby Township and Macomb Public Libraries, Macomb Community College, the state-of-the-art Macomb Recreation Center, Suburban Ice Arena, Yates Cider Mill and Lake St. Clair.

Visitors to the area can stay at Staybridge Suites, Hampton Inn and Comfort Inn, all located within minutes.

Some of the area's most popular dining spots are Admiamo’s, PF Changs, California Pizza Kitchen, Dave & Buster’s, Outback Steakhouse, and Osaka Japanese.

Students in Shelby Township attend the exemplary Utica Community Schools. The district is frequently recognized for excellence, including 28 Michigan Blue Ribbon School designations.  UCS students have the highest composite MEAP, Michigan Merit, and ACT scores in the county.

Higher Education institutions Oakland University, Wayne State University and Walsh College are all located an easy commute away.

Each summer the Shelby Township Art Fair Committee invites artists from across Michigan to exhibit at its the Shelby Township Municipal Grounds. Other community activities include a fantastic Little League Program, the Shelby Gardeners Club and Rotary Club.

Because of its natural beauty, Stoney Creek Metro Park draws more than just Shelby Township residents. The park encompasses 4,461 scenic acres and including the 500 acre Stoney Creek Lake. Visitors can enjoy fishing, golf, baseball, inline skating, hiking and biking. The Stoney Creek Nature Center hosts programs that educate people of all ages about native plants and animals.  

George George Memorial Park, Whispering Woods and Macomb Corners Parks are offer space to enjoy the great outdoors as well. Located in neighboring Clinton Township, George George features a walking path, large play structures, picnic pavilion and extensive landscaping. Whispering Woods is home to a quiet wooded trail and several soccer fields. Macomb Corners Park contains playscapes, baseball diamonds, a concession stand, walking trail, inline skating rink and more soccer fields.

Home buyers have options that range from well-established neighborhoods with small man-made lakes to newer subdivisions. And, if it goes up for sale, you can still find the occasional farmhouse.
