Referred to locally as a “Lakeland Paradise” Waterford Township is 36 square miles of great city services, waterfront recreation and some of Oakland County’s best amenities.

Located at the geographic center of Oakland County, it is easily accessible to area expressways, as well as two international airports: Oakland County International and Flint’s Bishop International.

Waterford offers diverse housing options ranging from modest starter homes to luxurious waterfront properties.

Students here enjoy the benefits of attending Blue Ribbon Schools. The district offers a “whole child” approach to education, and has a national award-winning arts and music programs. Waterford’s approach to education has proven success: Ninety-two percent of its high schools graduates continue on to attend a college or university.

The Waterford School District also teams up with The Waterford Coalition for Youth and Media Network to host “BRING IT – Waterford’s Regional Talent Show.” Individuals and groups of all ages and talents who live, work or attend school in Oakland County are eligible to audition for the annual event.

Waterford Township contains 34 lakes. The city is known for extensive waterfront recreational opportunities like swimming, boating, fishing, water skiing, and special events like the Quake on the Lake hydroplane races. Winter fun includes ice boating, skating and hockey.

Nearby Pontiac Lake State Recreation Area offers horseback riding, hiking, cross country skiing, mountain biking, canoeing and kayaking.

Waterford hosts many fun events such as the Taste of Waterford, the annual Christmas tree lighting, Memorial Day parade and Oktoberfest.

If that’s not enough excitement, you’re just a short drive from two of Metro Detroit’s biggest entertainment venues: The Palace of Auburn Hills and DTE Energy Music Theater.

One of the crowning jewels of this community is the extensive Drayton Plains Nature Center. This 137 acre property offers approximately 6km of trails. The Center displays specimens in their natural habitats, and offers hands-on experiences for the whole family, free of charge. Popular features include a pioneer era log cabin, and several wildlife viewing ponds.

If you’re looking for a day of power shopping, Waterford is not far from Great Lakes Crossing and the Village of Rochester Hills. The Village is a beautifully designed outdoor mall with great dining, and Great Lakes Crossing is a large indoor outlet mall with over 180 retailers.

But don’t shop til you drop, you’ll want to save a little energy to enjoy a sunset on one of Waterford’s many lakes.
