Thinking of eating out at a restaurant, or grabbing something to drink with some friends in Ionia Michigan?
Where is a good place to eat around here?
This is a question myself, and many of you probably get asked several times a week. So I decided to share my answers, and tell a little bit about why I like the places I do.
The best similarities my four favorites share in common are this. They are all owned or operated, (or both) by families in our community. All four actively contribute their time and charity to promote and help where needed in the community.
My Personal Favorites
1. Oliveras's Located at the major artery in downtown Ionia (Main St and M-66), Olivera's has and does all the right things to make for a supreme eating establishment, and a great asset for the City of Ionia. The service oriented, courteous staff is always on top of their game to provide and exceptional dining experience. The menu features something for everyone while specializing in Italian. And takeout/delivery for the times you feel like enjoying it in your home.
For Lunch I always like to frequent their buffet. Loaded with many unique pizaa's, bread sticks, and pasta; there is something on their for everyone. It also comes with the soup and salad bar which can create a meal on it's own! They have a full lunch menu as well, that is full of great choices. Their website link will be below to check out their menu.
For Dinner I am in love with their all beef burrito. They have options galore ranging from a premium steak, to pasta dishes, to pizza, to a large array of filling appetizers. They have several beer's on tap, and a full wine selection.
2. Gregory's Gregory's has a much more subtle location, on the outskirts of town. The interior of the building shows momento's from Ionia's history, and provides a great, friendly bar/tavern atmosphere.
For Lunch or Dinner I am a fan of their New York style Pizza! Large pieces of pizza, unique in style and taste, always enjoyable. I am also a fan of their fresh, homemade mozzarella sticks. From time to time, you can even enjoy a fresh Pabst straight from the tap!

3. Dexter Street Smokehouse Formerly named Skoogy's, this bar/restaurant is actually located inside of Ionia Bowl 300, the local bowling alley. With a brand new menu, I have yet to try everything, but I have quickly established my favorites!
For lunch, dinner, or during a bowling league I frequently get their homeade Mozzarella Sticks. Yes, their is definitely a trend of fried cheese on my favorites list! Dexter Street Smokehouse has a unique breading mixed with tortilla chips on their mozzarella sticks that add a spin and a great taste to them. They also have great burger's. I have yet to have something here that I don't like, so its definitely worth trying.
4. Lamplight Grill I love their location. Located on the bricks in historic downtown Ionia, walk here from anywhere. They offer a great selection for lunch and dinner!
For lunch I like their daily combo, or their soup and salad bar. They also feature a burger of the week, a free kids night, and a Sunday prime rib buffet. Always a great place to eat!
Although buying groceries and cooking your own meals can be less expensive and healthier, we all enjoy eating out out at our favorite restaurants from time to time. Hope this assist you in making a decision when eating out at a restaurant in Ionia, Michigan.
