Northville is welcoming to the casual observer, but it is especially intriguing when you look a little closer.
If you were hurrying through downtown on your way to a live show at Genitti’s, or the Marquis Theater, you might not notice the lovely glow cast by old fashioned street lamps.
But the easiest thing to miss in your haste to get a table at one of Northville’s many fine restaurants is the town’s tiniest inhabitants: the Fairies.
For the past several years, more than 70 downtown business owners have put up “fairy doors” to offer the tiny residents a place to stay, and kids a place to leave pennies or candy for them.
Speaking of kids, Northville schools are among some of the very best in Metro Detroit, as are the local parks and playgrounds.
Northville is also home to some not-so-tiny residents: Race horses that run the track at Northville Downs, January through April for the past 100 years.
This upscale community offers several annual events such as the Buy Michigan and Victorian Festivals, and Arts & Acts, as well as a seasonal farmer’s market and outdoor concerts.
Northville provides a popular backdrop for the film industry because of its tree-lined streets, Victorian homes and historic buildings.
So next time you’re here to house hunt, it might not be a bad idea to leave a penny for the fairies, just for luck.
