Michigan Move: Farmington Hills

Michigan Move: Farmington Hills

This week we are introducing you to the second largest city in Oakland County: Farmington Hills. With a community with over 80,000 residents, Farmington Hills has much to offer families who are looking for their next move. This city has a reputation for being a desirable place to live.

Farmington Hills is a prime location for commuters to Ann Arbor and Detroit, as the city is under 30 miles from both cities. Farmington Hills has over 3,5000 businesses, with a large portion being a part of 500 fortune companies.

Farmington Hills consistently ranks as one of the safest cities in the United States, as well as in the state of Michigan. In 2010, the area ranked as the 30th safest city in America. In 2014, Farmington Hills had the lowest number of recorded crimes in its 42-year history.

This city is home to Holocaust Memorial Center. Their mission is to remember those who perished and survived the Holocaust. They hope to use their center as a model for teaching ethical conduct and responsible decision making.

Most of Farmington Hills is served by Farmington Public Schools, which is shared with nearby Farmington. The city includes several private schools, including two parochial Catholic schools, Our Lady of Sorrows and St. Fabian, run by the Archdiocese of Detroit, an all-girls Catholic high school, Mercy High School, one Lutheran school, Concordia Lutheran School/St. Paul's Lutheran Preschool, and a non-denominational Jewish day school, Hillel Day School. The city also contains a branch of the Oakland Community College.
